About the Company
Carol Oberholtzer
Ms. Oberholtzer is president of Lahontan GeoScience Inc., which she
established in 1994. She has over 16 years of experience in environmental consulting,
specializing in groundwater hydrology, contaminant fate and transport, and site
remediation. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Indiana
University awarded in 1978 and a Master of Science degree in Hydrology from the University
of Arizona awarded in 1984. She is a certified environmental manager (CEM) through the
state of Nevada, a registered environmental assessor (REA) in California and a certified
groundwater professional (CGWP) through the Association of Groundwater Scientists and
Engineers (AGWSE). Ms. Oberholtzers began her career working for private
environmental and engineering consulting firms such as Kleinfelder, Inc. and Woodward
Clyde Consultants in the San Francisco area. She worked on many diverse projects related
to characterizing and remediating contaminated soil, surface water and groundwater for
private industry and public agencies. She served as technical consultant to EPA Region 9
on California Superfund sites throughout the state as well as senior hydrologist
responsible for proposal preparation, project management and client/regulatory agency
liaison on numerous light industrial sites. She has contributed technical expertise in
numerous Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments per the National
Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and is experienced in performing risk assessments and
environmental audits of properties that are under consideration for purchase.
Ms. Oberholtzer moved to Reno, Nevada in 1989 and joined Westec Inc,
a local geotechnical consulting firm. She founded the groundwater services group at the
company, hired and trained personnel, and expanded this practice area. Significant
projects she was in charge of include groundwater contaminant transport modeling for the
Honey Lake Water Importation Project EIS, mine pit dewatering design using computer models
for large mining companies such as Barrick Goldstrike, and surface water quality
evaluations for the Truckee Meadows. In 1993 she was selected as the state of
Nevadas on call environmental consultant to evaluate contamination of soil and
groundwater in downtown Reno for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. In this
capacity she developed the first groundwater flow and transport model of the Downtown Reno
area.
After
founding Lahontan GeoScience, Inc. (LGS) in 1994 Ms. Oberholtzer has continued to perform
technical evaluations as well as providing expert witness testimony for a myriad of
projects throughout the western United States. Her responsibilities as chief executive
officer include business development and management, as well as responsibility the overall
quality of the companys work product.
